What about the port and the des key?

In the fsec.conf file of the router are the instructions.
Enter with winscp and read it with the text editor.
In the fsec.conf file you can also put the iks data with the text editor.

Ok..got my info entered into fsec.conf.
hooked up to vip211 and get error 122 internal communication error.

gnd on router to gnd on avr
tx on router to tx on avr
rx on router to rx on avr
is that correct?

i think my avr needs to be flashed

not sure what model...it has an atmel8515 and two smaller chips.
it says emu-4 on it.
what file so i need?

If says Atmel 8515, then it is an atmega 8515.
On the other side that has the AVR?
You said that avr was programmed.
